Commuters decry slow pace of road repairs at Nowpora
Srinagar, May 19: Commuters have decried slow pace on work on road repairs at Nowpora road saying it leads to massive traffic jams.
This stretch at Nowpora is the vital link that connects Downtown with city centre areas. However, it has turned into a nightmare for those navigating the area, given the slow pace of work on the road and footpath.
“It has been several months now since Nowpora was dug up, however, work on its restoration is going on at a slow pace,” said Abdul Hamid, a commuter.
“It is surprising to see just few labourers laying tiles on the vital road. Daily schools buses and ambulances are stuck in traffic jams on this route for a long time. There seems to be no urgency by concerned authorities to complete the work on priority,” he added.
Earlier this month, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Bilal Mohi ud Din Bhat had stated that the district administration was aware about the problems faced by the commuters due to the ongoing work on the Nowpora road.
“I completely understand that people are suffering but we are trying to expedite the work and hope that the work on the project gets completed,” he had stated.
“We make a fervent appeal to DC Srinagar to direct the concerned authorities to complete the pending works at Nowpora in daily shifts as this route is major link to Downtown,” a group of locals said.
