Community-driven efforts crucial to tackle substance abuse: DIG Haseeb-ur-Rehman
Srinagar, Aug 30: In a heartfelt acknowledgment of their unwavering dedication, volunteers of the South Asia Center for Peace and Peoples Empowerment (SACPPE) were felicitated by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Haseeb-ur-Rehman at a ceremony held in Tagore Hall, Srinagar, on Friday.
The event marked a significant moment of pride for the volunteers who have been at the forefront of combating substance abuse among children and adolescents under SACPPE’s Dekh Baal initiative.
Their tireless efforts have not only earned them recognition but also highlighted the crucial role of community involvement in tackling the growing menace of substance abuse in the region.
A large gathering of volunteers and responsible citizens attended the event, reflecting the widespread community support for this noble cause. In his address, DIG Rehman lauded the volunteers for their relentless commitment to a cause that has become increasingly vital for the region's youth. He stressed the importance of community-driven efforts in addressing the escalating issue of substance abuse and commended the Dekh Baal initiative for its proactive and comprehensive approach.
“The dedication and compassion exhibited by the SACPPE volunteers under the Dekh Baal initiative are truly commendable. Their work has demonstrated that with collective resolve, significant change is not only possible but inevitable. It is our collective duty to support and amplify such initiatives,” said DIG Rehman.
The Dekh Baal initiative, which focuses on the prevention, rehabilitation, and awareness of substance abuse, has gained significant traction since its inception. It employs a comprehensive strategy that includes outreach programs in schools, counseling sessions, and collaboration with healthcare providers such as IMHANS, GMC Srinagar, and the Youth Development and Rehabilitation Center for J&K Police for treatment referrals.
The felicitation ceremony also served as a platform for discussing further collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community organizations like SACPPE. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and mementos of appreciation to the volunteers, symbolizing their invaluable contributions to the fight against substance abuse.
