SKUAST-Kashmir has recently unveiled its admission process for the year 2025 for various undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. Every year the university comes up with newly designed academic and research programmes at UG and PG level, offering broader options to student community for choosing their right preferences. The university has created several new programmes based on market and industry demands as well as human resource gaps at regional and national level to create trained manpower in frontier areas of science. Our programmes are continuously aligning with cutting edge technologies such as AI, ML, data science etc., to enhance the employability of graduates, as well as create a pool of talented professional that can drive next big changes in state and national economy and policy planning.

 Undergraduate programmes

At the undergraduate level, University is offering courses in six professional programmes in Veterinary sciences, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries, and Sericulture, five new age technology courses in AI and Ml, Dairy technology, Food technology, Biotechnology, Agri. Engineering. and three basic science courses in Economics and data Sciences, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. The UG programme in AI and ML is the first of its kind programme in the country designed in collaboration with IIT Mandi to create top notch professionals in the emerging areas of application of AI and ML.

The course on Economics and Data Science aims to bridge the skill gap in applying data sciences in economic planning, whereas the programmes in biotechnology, dairy technology, biochemistry, and food technology have been designed with a focus on creating industry ready graduates to support booming market in biological in food and agriculture value chains.   The engineering programme offered by SKUAST-K is a technology focussed programme for creating trained manpower for tech-enabled agriculture.

We offer learner customised academic programmes for personalised capacity building by offering degree by design and choice based credit system. This is reflected by our outstanding performances in last three years in terms of student’s innovation grants from BIRAC, DST, RKVY as well as other organisations as well as several student-led startups and patents.  Our broader goal is to create next gen leaders that can shape modern societies by developing science and technology driven solutions through innovations.

 Postgraduate programmes

SKUAST-K postgraduate programmes are research intensive programmes that address regional, national and global issues facing agriculture and allied sectors with a strong focus on developing products, processes and solutions. Our PG programmes are Sandwich mandatory, wherein 3-6 months of residential period are spent in national and international institutions. The university offers PG programmes in 56 mainstream branches in Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries, and Sericulture, eight streams in Engineering and food technology, as well as five industry and market driven courses in Agrochemicals, Finance, Business management, marketing and agro-tourism.

Our research is driven by strong infrastructure, state of art research labs, globally connected research programmes and collaborations with leading global institutions. We also offer a dual degree programme with Western Sydney University in the areas of precision agriculture. Based on the reflections of our outstanding research driven PG programmes, SKUAST-K research scholars are a diverse, multicultural community from all over the country. The scholarly output of SKUAST-K research programmes is tremendous with h-index of the university reaching 97 in 2024. Our students are regularly publishing their research results in high impact international journals.

 Academic ecosystem

SKUAST-K has demonstrated leadership in reshaping higher education in agriculture and the Model of education now serves as a guiding framework for national model. We at SKUAST-K offer students with a diverse cafeteria of course options with credit accruals from both offline and online platforms, credit transfers, choice-based system and a reformed assessment system with completely paperless examination at UG level. Our foundation programme is a unique initiative now being implemented at national level as Deeksarambh.

The rural exploration module of SKUAST-K at UG level exposes to students with field level experiences about how farming is done in Kashmir, and how farmers devise and apply grassroot innovations to address challenges. We also provide students an opportunity to work in industries to develop entrepreneurial aptitude for building their own startups.  Our innovation and entrepreneurship centre (SKIEE centre) provides outstanding handholding in building students confidence for innovations and startups.
