COLONY WOES | Waterlogging pesters Qamarabad residents
Srinagar, Dec 10: Residents of Umar Lane (B) Qamarabad area of Qamarwari on city outskirts have expressed resentment against waterlogging in the area from the last several weeks.
A delegation of aggrieved residents said that the main drain beneath a culvert has been blocked. “The drain caters to the waste water of over 200 households and also serves as an outlet of excess irrigation water flowing from agricultural land in the locality. The whole locality is flooded as inhabitants can’t even venture out of their houses,” they said.
“It is a difficult situation for us as our locality is inundated. The water has entered premises of several houses damaging gardens and foundations. If there is rain or snowfall, the situation will get worse as water level will rise. There is a risk that water might enter our ground floors,” they said.
The residents appealed to SDA and SMC authorities to take measures for restoring the blocked drainage beneath a culvert at the earliest.
