COLONY WOES | Garbage dump turns into breeding ground for dogs at Gasoo

Srinagar, Jan 7: A garbage dump at Gasso Hazratbal has become a major source of inconvenience for locals.

A delegation from the area said the garbage dump near Gasoo bus stop attracts a large number of stray dogs. “Stray dogs chase pedestrians posing risk to their lives,” they said.

“Authorities should either install a covered garbage dumper or close the open garbage dump,” said Sajad Ahmad, a local.

The locals said that as the main road at the spot is also without adequate street lighting, this has compounded the problem. There are many coaching institutes in the area, and students are under continuous fear due to the presence of stray dogs.

“In evening, there is darkness on the road and dogs are on prowl. They attack pedestrians who walk close to the garbage dump. These dogs also chase vehicles and scooties and this can result in accidents. We appeal to authorities to address the issue at the earliest,” said another local.
