Collective efforts needed to protest tree cover: Dr Farooq Abdullah
Srinagar, Mar 23: National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah in his message on international Arbor Day today, highlighted the importance of caring for trees to sustainably protect our planet's natural resources.
He emphasised the significance of planting trees and sowing seeds, stating that when a bird, person, or animal benefits from the fruits of a tree, it is considered a charitable gift (sadaqah). Quoting the revered patron saint Nund Reshi (RA), he reiterated the profound connection between food and forests, especially in the face of climate change.
Addressing the alarming rate of deforestation and depletion of tree cover in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq stressed the urgent need for collective action to safeguard our urban, rural, and forested areas. While acknowledging the role of the government in this endeavor, he called upon individuals to actively participate in preserving our precious tree cover.
“I appeal the people of Jammu and Kashmir to unite in protecting our environment. Both the government and citizens must work together to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” he said.
