Cold returns, Pahalgam coldest at -11.9°C

Srinagar, Feb 5: Following the recent substantial snowfall, temperatures in Kashmir and most parts of Jammu division plummeted below freezing on Monday while the Meteorological Department predicted dry weather for about a week.

The MeT officials here said that Srinagar experienced a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night's minus 0.7 degrees Celsius considered normal for this time of year.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla witnessed a low of minus 10 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night's minus 7 degrees Celsius, registering a temperature of 3.3 degrees Celsius above the normal range.

Qazigund saw a minimum temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous night's minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, yet still 0.1 degree Celsius above the seasonal average for the gateway town in Kashmir.

Pahalgam health resort in south Kashmir recorded a chilling low of minus 11.9 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the previous night's minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, marking a departure of 5.7 degrees Celsius from the norm.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, experienced a minimum of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, slightly below the previous night's minus 3 degrees Celsius and 1.3 degrees Celsius lower than the seasonal average for the area.

In north Kashmir's Kupwara town, the temperature dropped to minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, which was 1.1 degrees Celsius above the normal for the area.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 5.2 degrees Celsius, exceeding the seasonal average by 4.3 degrees Celsius.

Banihal reported minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, Batote minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 1.8 degrees Celsius.

The MeT said dry weather is expected to prevail from February 6 to 13.
