Srinagar, Nov 7: The cold has started to grip Kashmir following recent snowfall in the higher reaches, with temperatures dipping sharply across the Valley.

While the weather remains largely dry, the drop in mercury has intensified the chill, making conditions feel much colder than usual for the early part of November.

Residents of Srinagar experienced the coldest night of the season, as the minimum temperature dropped to 0.2 degrees Celsius.

The popular tourist destinations of Pahalgam and Gulmarg have experienced temperatures plummeting well below freezing, transforming the Valley into a winter wonderland.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, Pahalgam recorded the lowest temperature in the Valley at minus 3 degrees Celsius, followed by Gulmarg at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius.

Other regions also witnessed sub-zero conditions, with Qazigund at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, Kupwara at minus 0.7 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag at minus 1.6 degrees Celcius.

The Meteorological Department officials said here that the weather across Kashmir is expected to remain generally dry for the next several days.

“There is no significant change in the weather expected until November 17,” they said. “However, due to a further drop in temperatures, the cold is likely to increase.”

The dry conditions, combined with clear skies, have allowed night temperatures to fall rapidly, especially in south and north Kashmir.

Early mornings are marked by frost on rooftops and vehicles, and residents have begun using traditional heating methods such as kangris (earthen firepots) to stay warm.

Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has turned into a picturesque winter wonderland.

The pearly white snow has blanketed the meadows, pine forests, and mountain slopes, offering breathtaking views that have drawn tourists and photographers alike.
