CME held on advances in Heart Failure, Blood Thinners, Cholesterol lowering therapies

Srinagar, July 27: Gauri Kaul Foundation (GKF) held a scientific meeting on advances in heart failure, antiplatelet therapy and Lipidology on Saturday here. Prof Upendra Kaul, Founder Director of the GKF was the chief organiser. The meeting was inaugurated by Director SKIMS Prof M Ashraf Ganie in presence of Former Directors Prof M S Khuroo and Prof Parvez Kaul. It was attended by more than 50 Cardiologists and Physicians from the city and neighbouring districts.

The subjects included newer strategies in managing heart failure including the latest agent Verciguat and dapagliflozin. The need for early aggressive treatment to reduce the readmissions, improving the quality of life and eventually the survival was emphasized.

The session on blood thinners included the use of drugs like rivaroxaban (anti-coagulant) with aspirin to reduce strokes, Disease of arteries of limbs, heart attacks and reducing all-cause mortality in patients with chronic coronary syndromes.

The organisers said the lipid lowering session started with the historical perspectives and new research in treating patients with High LP a level (a very high-risk molecule). This is seen very often in the Kashmiri population. Newer injections to reduce bad cholesterol levels very early after the heart attacks which included Evelocumab and Incilisaran were also discussed at length for very high-risk individuals. All the agents discussed are available in the market

The speakers were senior faculty from SKIMS, SMHS, Private hospitals of the city and GKF.

Prof U Kaul speaking to Greater Kashmir emphasised the need of continued teaching and interactions with the local doctors to keep them abreast of the new therapies. Meeting ended with a vote of thanks given by the Director of GKF, Dr Zubair Saleem.
