New Delhi, Feb 8: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s efforts to develop Ayodhya have paid off. BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan won the Milkipur by-election by a big margin, defeating Ajit Prasad, the son of Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad, by 61,710 votes.

Despite his busy schedule—handling the Mahakumbh, official duties, and Uttar Pradesh Diwas—Yogi Adityanath visited Milkipur twice to rally support for Paswan. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav’s campaign for the Samajwadi Party (SP) did not make an impact. Even though he came to Ayodhya to support the SP candidate, he did not visit Ramlala.

During his rallies, Yogi Adityanath urged people to support “nationalism” and reject “dynastic politics.” His message struck a chord with voters. BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan secured 1,46,397 votes (60.17% vote share), with 1,46,291 votes from EVMs and 106 postal ballots. On the other hand, the SP’s Ajit Prasad got 84,655 votes, including just 32 postal votes, bringing his vote share to 34.81%.

Yogi Adityanath, a committed BJP leader under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, played a key role in the elections. His rallies across Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Delhi were well received. In the recent UP by-elections, BJP won seven out of nine seats. In Milkipur, which was the tenth, voters strongly backed Yogi’s leadership, leaving no room for the Akhilesh-Awadhesh duo. Awadhesh Prasad, who had been an MP from Milkipur (2012-2022) and later from Ayodhya (2024), failed to secure a win for his son.

Yogi Adityanath’s strong and clear style of leadership helped him connect with voters. His strict governance reshaped UP’s image, while his focus on local issues earned people’s trust. His tough stance against the mafia and corruption in Ayodhya made a strong impression. The large crowds at his rallies showed growing public support. BJP leaders and workers actively campaigned for Paswan, ensuring victory.
