Srinagar, Jan 2: The Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, on Thursday hailed the unmatched hospitality of Kashmiris, particularly during the recent snowfall that left many tourists stranded.

Speaking to reporters, Sharma said: “The hospitality of Kashmiris is unmatched and unparalleled. The ray of hope comes from here (Kashmir). I don't think we can find secular people like those in Kashmir anywhere else," he said.

The minister praised the families who opened their homes to help those in need, calling them unsung heroes. "I am deeply grateful to the families who assisted tourists during the snowfall, providing food and shelter. People opened their homes, mosques, and gurdwaras. Their actions were truly heartwarming," he said.

Regarding preparations for winter, Sharma assured that adequate arrangements had been made for snow-bound areas. "The government has ensured a buffer stock of essentials for the next five months. We have not received any complaints regarding shortages or the non-availability of rations in any area," he stated.

Sharma expressed his vision for Jammu and Kashmir hosting the IPL within the next two years, citing the region's potential and enthusiasm for sports. "There is immense scope and potential among the youth here. Sports is also a way to create employment opportunities for them," he said.

Addressing development and funding, the minister emphasized the need for additional support from the Central government. "J&K is the crown of India, and its people have suffered immensely over the past 30 years. We deserve extra funds to live in comfort. Central support is essential to overcome financial challenges," he said.

Sharma revealed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would visit Delhi in the coming days to discuss these issues. " If we need any additional or extra funds, we need Central support for that. CM Omar Abdullah is going to Delhi in the next few days. We are following the instructions given by Omar Abdullah Sahab and very soon good news will be shared with people here," he said.

Commenting on the functioning of Sports Associations in J&K, the minister for Youth Services and Sports assured that concerns would be addressed after discussions with stakeholders. "We have 53 recognized associations here, and their issues will be looked into thoroughly," he added.
