Jammu, Jan 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will present his second budget of the J&K Union Territory for the year 2026-27 on February 6, 2026.

The session will commence with the address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on February 2, 2026, and will culminate on April 4, 2026.

Spread to 62 days for the first time, the budget session will have a 35-day-long recess from February 20 to March 26, 2026, on account of the month of Ramadan, followed by Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

As per the provisional calendar issued by the J&K Legislative Assembly secretariat, there will be a total of 22 sittings of the fifth session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the presentation of the Annual Financial Statement of Expenditure for the year 2026-27 and the presentation of the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for the year 2025-2026 on February 6, the general discussion on the budget will start on February 7, and it will be resumed on February 9 after Sunday on February 8.

General discussion on the budget will continue on February 9 and 10.

The Chief Minister, who is also the Finance Minister, will reply to the general discussion on the budget on February 10, 2026.

The session will see the passage of the budget after the recess period on March 27, 2026, which has been kept reserved for Appropriation Bills.

Two days each will be reserved for Private Members’ resolutions and for Private Members’ Bills.

Three days - February 3, 4, and 5 have been earmarked for Discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the Lieutenant Governor’s Address.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will reply to the discussion on the LG’s Address on February 5, 2026.

In the calendar, seven days have been earmarked for Demands for Grants on February 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, and 19.

From February 20 to March 26, the session will have a 35-day recess.

The House will meet again on March 27, 2026, for passage of the budget (Appropriation Bills).

On March 28, 2026, the government business will be conducted.

March 31 and April 2, 2026, have been reserved for Private Members’ Resolutions. The Private Members’ Bills will be taken up on March 30 and April 1, 2026. The session will culminate on April 4 – the day earmarked for Government Business.

Notably, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had presented his maiden budget of Rs 1,12,310 crore for the J&K UT on March 7, 2025.
