CM Omar says no to VIP culture, encourages people friendly approach

Srinagar, Nov 22: Despite rules of business being unclear Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has laid emphasis on people-friendly approach and has ensured that VIP culture is done away with.

Soon after taking oath last month, Omar Abdullah directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police to refrain from creating a “green corridor” or halting traffic during his road travel. He also encouraged his cabinet colleagues to adopt a “people-friendly” approach.

Recently the Chief Minister declined to sit on a bigger chair that was specially arranged for him during an event at SKUAST- Jammu. He requested the organizers to replace it with a chair of the same size as the others on the dais.

During his recent visit to Poonch the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable development across the region. “This is the people’s elected government, and it is our duty to stay in close contact with the public.

Omar Abdullah asked the elected representatives to play an active role in the development process and work in close coordination with the officials.

Meanwhile, National Conference Member Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi while talking to the reporters here said that the government is doing its job wherever it has clear powers. “Things that are in the domain of elected government, are being taken seriously and decisions taken as well,” he added.

It may be recalled that soon after assuming charge the Omar Abdullah led government reverted back to the November academic session.

The Chief Minister had stated that reverting back to the November session was the long pending demand from students and parents from Kashmir and winter zone of Jammu. “We have revisited the exam schedule and brought it back to the erstwhile position,” he had said.

A politician said, “All of us should understand that an elected government has taken over reins after a period of ten years. Things will take time to settle down. We cannot expect the Omar led government to do wonders within a short span of time.”
