Anantnag, Jan 26: Cabinet Minister Sakeena Itoo on Sunday said that the National Conference (NC)-led government was committed to restore the dignity, honour, and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We are thankful to the people for reposing trust on us and giving us a strong mandate to represent their aspirations. Under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, our government is resolute in restoring the dignity, honour and identity of J&K," she said.

Sakeena was addressing a Republic Day gathering at the Government Boys Degree College in Anantnag, after unfurling the tri-color. She said  that the restoration of statehood remains the government's top priority.

"As soon as we assumed office, we passed a resolution in the cabinet for restoring statehood. and introduced. We also brought  resolutions in the assembly to restore J&K's special status. While we have not accomplished everything in these three months, we have made a start and are committed to resolving the issues faced by the people," Sakeena said.

She reiterated the government's vision of Jammu and Kashmir as a hub of peace, communal harmony, and progress. "We will ensure that the secular credentials of J&K remain safeguarded. Our ancestors made supreme sacrifices to protect the honor of this nation and its Constitution. On this Republic Day, we must follow their teachings and uphold the values of the Constitution," she said, while congratulating the people on the occasion,” the Minister said.

Sakeena, who is also the Minister for Health, Education, and Social Welfare, highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the government in these sectors during the past three months.

"Health and education are our priority sectors, and we are determined to bring revolutionary changes in these fields," she said. She also claimed a marked improvement in the power scenario this winter across Kashmir.
