CM Omar demands transparent probe into killing of Jammu youth

Srinagar, July 25: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has demanded a transparent and time-bound probe into the killing of Mohd Parvez, a resident of Niki Tawi in Jammu.

Terming the incident “highly unfortunate and deeply regrettable,” Omar said the use of force by police agencies must be "calibrated and cannot be indiscriminate." He warned that Jammu and Kashmir has already paid a heavy price in the past for such incidents and that accountability must not be compromised this time.

“This incident must not be brushed under the carpet. It should be investigated in a transparent and time-bound manner. The truth must come out and those responsible should be held to account,” Omar said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Offering his condolences to the bereaved family, Omar prayed for strength to the kin of the deceased and said, “I send my heartfelt condolences to the family of Mohd Parvez. May Allah grant him Jannat.”

The incident has triggered outrage across sections of civil society and human rights groups.
