Mendhar, Sept 17: In a show of solidarity with the affected families, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Kalaban village in Mendhar, Poonch district, where massive land sinking and frequent landslides have wreaked havoc over the past several days. Accompanied by Cabinet Minister Javed Ahmed Rana, the Chief Minister assessed the situation on the ground and interacted with displaced residents.

The disaster has displaced hundreds of villagers, with dozens of homes either completely destroyed or rendered unsafe for living. Agricultural land, livestock, and community infrastructure have also suffered extensive damage, leaving many families without a livelihood.

Chief Minister Abdullah assured the victims that all possible assistance would be provided. He directed district administration officials to expedite relief measures, including temporary shelters, food supplies, and financial support for rebuilding efforts.

Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok K Sharma while briefing Chief Minister about the losses saud that 76 structures, mostly houses, have suffered complete damages in this land sinking with 46 have already collapsed and around seven dozen families have been shifted to safer places
