Clouds of war
The renewed crisis around middle east are nothing short of a worst omen for the already teetering global order. The American war machine, well oiled, geared up and always upgrading itself, is taking positions that signal the possibility of an all out war, any moment. The Arab states, surrounded by their own security, economic and political compulsions, are navigating a situation that is beyond their control. On the other hand, we have Iran trying to make a last ditch effort to safeguard its territorial scheme of things. On Iran’s side, and to counter the US hegemony, we have powers like Russia and China finely entering this war calculus. Looking from above, the battleground is all set for some intense shaking. If it really happens, it wouldn’t leave the world the way it is now. This military confrontation is sure to change the world in ways beyond recognition.
All experts in the filed opine that if the US hits Iran this time, it is going to spill over in other areas as well. The Iranian military might may be no match to that of US, but it can very well try its military arm on the American military bases in the Arab countries or in the waters around. That can then have its after effects on the entire globe. The fault lines around the globe can turn operational and the fall out can may go beyond anyone’s guess.
In this situation, it is incumbent on the global leadership to uptick their activities and use all means to avert any dangerous and violent collapse of the global peace. In this context, India has a special role to play. As a country that is not leaning too heavily towards any bloc right now, India can contribute significantly in building an overall diplomatic atmosphere that prevents a military confrontation. India has civilisational and strategic ties with Iran, and it would never want Iran to be destabilised. Similarly it has ties with the US and it cannot afford a rupture in those ties beyond a point. Leveraging its economic size, India can positively contribute to the efforts aimed at preventing any violent confrontation in the region.
