Cloudburst and flash floods
Cloudburst, flash floods, and landslides keep on occuring at different places from time to time. Subsequently, sometimes the massive damage is caused in the affected areas. The damage varies from place to place depending upon the intensity of the cloudburst, flash floods and landslides. Sometimes the residential houses and other structures are completely damaged rendering a number of people homeless. Other infrastructure also gets damaged. In some cases there is even loss of life. Such incidents are unavoidable but the hardships the affected people face, can be minimised by providing timely relief and compensation to them. Several residential houses, vehicles, agriculture crop, foot bridges, electric poles, and drinking water supply pipes were damaged in flash floods and landslide after a could burst in Kangan a few days back. According to local people, while some houses were extensively damaged, some others have developed cracks and become unsafe. Because of the flashflood and subsequent damage a number of families were rendered homeless. The Srinagar-Leh highway also got blocked at the affected area. The work for removing the blockade was started and completed. Subsequently, the vehicular traffic movement was restored on the highway. It will take some time to the affected people to resume their normal lives. They will have to reconstruct their houses or make major repairs. For that they need financial support from the government. They should be provided relief and compensation at the earliest. Other required assistance too has to be provided to them. Since the damage was massive, the impact is also massive. Those affected must get the relief and compensation immediately. Since such mishaps keep on occuring in other parts also the people there too get affected. The concerned departments must provide a helping hand to such people immediately. A mechanism has to be evolved for this purpose. The people must not be made to wait unnecessarily for relief, compensation or other assistance from the government. Such measures should be taken speedily so that those affected get help in time.
