Closure of vital bridge in Kangan results in heavy traffic jams

Kangan , Nov 20: The closure of the Kijpora bridge on Srinagar-Leh highway here due to the structural snag is taking a heavy toll on commuters.

The vital bridge near Kijpora area connects Srinagar with Kangan and Ladakh has been closed due to a structural snag a few days ago and the authorities have made a diversion of traffic through an alternate road link constructed by the BRO.

The commuters have complained about facing inconvenience due to the closure of the bridge and said that this is creating traffic congestion in the area. “This also blocks vehicular movement from Ladakh towards Srinagar and vice versa and leads to gridlocks. These days there is tourist flow and hundreds of vehicles ply on the road on a daily basis but the closure of the bridge is triggering massive traffic jams causing hardship to people particularly students, patients and employees besides tourists.”

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, has initiated urgent repair work to address the issue.

Officials have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to restore the bridge’s functionality as soon as possible. Authorities have urged commuters to cooperate with traffic diversions and stay updated on developments.
