Closure of road: Flood special Katra-Sangaldan train service begins today
Jammu, Sep 7: Jammu Railway Division of the Northern Railway, in the wake of the closure of roads due to floods and landslides, will run a local train from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Sangaldan for the next 5 days, from September 8 to 12, 2025.
A decision has been taken to provide immediate relief to the people and passengers trapped in the floods during the rainy season.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Railway Manager of Jammu Division, Vivek Kumar; Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal and other senior officers conducted a comprehensive inspection of all the damaged railway bridges between Jammu and Pathankot Cantt on Sunday.
Railway traffic was affected due to heavy rains and a flood-like situation in the Jammu division of Northern Railway.
“But under the guidance and leadership of Divisional Railway Manager of Jammu Division, Vivek Kumar, with the vigilance of all the officers of the division, the passengers stranded in Jammu, who had come to visit Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, were safely transported to their destination station.
Special trains were also operated for the passengers, and adequate arrangements of food and water were made for the passengers at every important railway station, like Katra, Jammu, Pathankot, Manwal, etc., and special trains were also operated in the division,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), Jammu Railway Division, Uchit Singhal stated.
A spokesperson of the Jammu Railway Division said that, keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers on September 6, 2025, under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager of Jammu Division, Vivek Kumar, and as per the directions of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the division, Uchit Singhal, and Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Arish Bansal, a decision was taken to run a local train from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Sangaldan for the next 5 days.
“Train number 04685/04686 will be run between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Sangaldan Katra. Train number 04685 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Sangaldan Badh (flood) special will run for 5 days from September 8 to 12. It will leave from Katra at 8.40 am and reach Sangaldan at 10 am. On the way, this train will stop at stations like Reasi, Bakkal, Dugga, Sawalkot, etc. Similarly, train number 04686 will run between Sangaldan and Katra, which will leave from Sangaldan at 14.15 pm and reach Katra at 15.45 pm. The stoppages of this train will be the same as train number 04685,” he stated, while giving the schedule of operation of the flood special service.
On the operation of these special trains, Singhal and Bansal said that the safety and convenience of passengers in the division was our top priority.
“Due to the suspension of road services in the Sangaldan and Katra area, this special train will provide an important option to the people to ensure safe and efficient travel, and such initiatives will be taken from time to time so that the journey can be made accessible and comfortable for the passengers,” they added.
