Cleanliness drive carried out in Sonamarg
Sonamarg, Aug 11: As a part of the Swachhta Pakhwada, a cleanliness and sanitation campaign was held at health resort Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Sunday.
The drive was held under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Gulzar Ahmed who is also holding the additional charge of Chief Executive Officer Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), marking the beginning of a fortnight dedicated to cleanliness and environmental sustainability across the district.
At the outset, a Swachhta pledge was administered by the Addl Deputy Commissioner to all officers, staff, and the participants. The day-long event witnessed participation from various departments, including Tourism, Police, Jal Shakti, Rural Development , Wildlife deptt NGOs , locals reflecting a unified effort to address cleanliness and hygiene issues at world famous tourist destination Sonamarg.
The event featured a significant plantation drive, a gesture that added a green dimension to the cleanliness efforts. This drive included the planting of trees dedicated to the memory of fallen heroes of the motherland .
The collective efforts of all involved highlighted the importance of cleanliness and hygiene and served as a reminder of the role of each individual in maintaining the beauty of Sonamarg and environmental conservation. On the occasion, the ADC Ganderbal said the aim is to involve local communities in environmental conservation through the campaign and instill a sense of responsibility towards ecological sustainability among all.
