Cleaning drive of spring launched at Wantpora
Srinagar, Feb 15: The Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) today launched a sustainability cleaning drive at Wantpora Spring, which was successfully restored last year under Mission Ehsaas.
Located opposite the Sazgaripora side of Khushalsar, the site holds added significance as the Phase 4 of the Mission Ehsaas which was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha last year highlighting its importance for community development and environmental rejuvenation.
“The spring was originally restored and dedicated to the public in the presence of Commissioner Secretary H&UDD Mandeep Kaur, marking a milestone in collaborative environmental action between civil society and administration. Today’s initiative reflects NLCO’s continued commitment to safeguarding natural water sources and ensuring their long-term ecological health,” Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman NLCO, said:
“Water is life, and every drop deserves protection. While the restoration of Wantpora Spring last year marked its revival, today’s effort reflects NLCO’s dedication to sustained care — because true conservation lies not only in revival, but in consistent protection and maintenance,” he added.
“The organisation reiterates that protecting springs means protecting life, livelihoods, and future generations, and emphasises that long-term sustainability depends on collective responsibility, regular upkeep, and community stewardship. NLCO also acknowledged the support of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and J&K Lakes & Waterways Development Authority for strengthening such community-driven environmental initiatives,” he added.
