Classwork suspended at GMC, NIT Srinagar
Srinagar, June 6: Classwork at Government Medical College (GMC) and National Institute of Technology in Srinagar has been suspended until Saturday after the campus witnessed protests over an alleged blasphemous social media post allegedly made by a medical student.
Reports of peaceful protests were received from GMC Srinagar and GMC Baramulla. The protestors denounced the blasphemous post and demanded stern action against student.
Officials at GMC said that the student’s post was seen as an insult to religion by fellow students and some faculty members. The student has been booked by police.
The authorities on Thursday directed the suspension of classes for undergraduate courses in GMC) Srinagar following tension over the post a student.
The Registrar of GMC Srinagar has said in an order that the classes for undergraduate courses will remain suspended from June 6 to 8 in the college.
National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar also on Thursday suspended the classwork for PG, UG and PHD students.
“The classwork in the Institute shall remain suspended on 06.06.2024 (Thursday). No UG/PG/PhD student, residing outside, will be allowed to enter the campus,” reads an order issued by the NIT administration.
