Clashes erupt between Afghanistan, Pakistani forces at Torkham border
New Delhi, Mar 4: The clash occurred while hundreds of travellers and patients, along with thousands of freight trucks, remained stranded on both sides of the Torkham crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Local residents report that forces of the Taliban government of Afghanistan and Pakistani military personnel engaged in a clash at Torkham around 12:30 AM on Sunday. Since then, the borders have been closed amid mounted tension.
According to TOLO news, the shooting was initiated by Pakistani forces against the Afghan troops and their checkpoints. As a result, some shops and civilian houses were also affected. The clash occurred while hundreds of travellers and patients, along with thousands of freight trucks, remained stranded on both sides of the Torkham crossing.
Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior of Afghanistan, commented on the incident as reported by TOLO news: “The Pakistani side initiated the conflict around midnight, which lasted for eleven days.
