Srinagar: Sep 4: At the age of 12, Ghulam Nabi Dar, known by his pen name Gazi Ghulam Nabi Kashmir, began working as an artisan. Over the years, he mastered the delicate craft of Kashmiri artistry and helped his family build a successful enterprise under the brand Pashmkaar, which now operates not only across the region but also in several countries.

What sets Dar’s journey apart is not just his skill with his hands but his gift with words. Despite lacking formal education, he has become a published author, giving voice to his thoughts, reflections, and experiences. On August 30, his fourth book, ChiYer Kyazi Gov, was released, marking a significant milestone in his life.

The book launch in Srinagar saw a gathering of distinguished guests, including Prof. Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi, Engineer Shabnam Bashir, Nazir Benazir, and Hasnain Masoodi, MLA, who attended as the chief guest. Haji Ghulam Ahmad Kumar presided over the event, with special guests including Hilal Khaliq Bhat of Hazratbal and former Information Commissioner Ghulam Rasool Sofi. Anchoring the event was Dar’s son, Tariq Dar, who shared personal insights into his father’s extraordinary journey.

“Though I never had a formal education, my thoughts and experiences found their way onto paper. Writing allows me to share the stories, wisdom, and reflections that life as an artisan has given me,” said Ghulam Nabi Dar.

Speaking about his father, Tariq Dar said, “My father may not be formally educated, but the thoughts in his books come naturally. Years as an artisan taught him patience, observation, and reflection. He expresses life in words just as beautifully as he shapes craft. Every idea in his books reflects the lived experiences of someone who has seen life, worked hard, and built a legacy.”
