Bhadarwah, Aug 1: Hundreds of alumni, students, teachers, and staff members gathered to participate in the celebrations that marked the commencement of the centenary celebrations of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Bhaderwah, the oldest and largest government school of Chenab Valley in terms of student strength.

Set up in 1923, the school is celebrating its centenary by organising a 100-day programme.

The Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Bhaderwah, formerly named Amar Singh High School Bhaderwah turned 100 this year and the school authorities have arranged a series of programmes to mark the grand occasion.

The day-long inaugural programme witnessed multiple events, including the release of a commemorative magazine by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda Harvinder Singh portraying the 100-year journey of the prestigious institution, the release of souvenirs, and cultural programmes by alumni.

The establishment of the school dates back to the pre-independence era when the then Maharaja of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir set up the first high school of Chenab Valley in Bhaderwah, 200 km from Jammu in 1923.

Over the last 100 years, the school enrolled thousands of students and nurtured outstanding individuals including a battery of civil servants, politicians, sportspersons, scientists, and educationists of national and international repute.
