Chenab Bridge gets coined
New Delhi, Jun 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, would inaugurate the Chenab Bridge — the world’s highest railway arch bridge - and flag off the Vande Bharat Express between Srinagar and Katra.
During his first visit to J&K following the Pahalgam terror attack, PM Modi would also unveil a Rs 100 commemorative coin dedicated to the Chenab Bridge.
According to noted numismatist Sudhir Lunawat, the coin will feature an image of the Chenab Bridge on one side.
Along the upper periphery of the coin, ‘Jammu-Srinagar Railway Line’ will be inscribed in Hindi, while the same will be written in English along the lower periphery.
Above the image, ‘Chenab Bridge 2025’ will be inscribed in both Hindi and English.
The reverse side of the coin will display the Ashoka Pillar emblem at the centre, beneath which the denomination ‘100’ will be written.
The word ‘Bharat’ will appear on the left side in Hindi, and ‘India’ on the right side in English.
Minted at the Kolkata Mint under the Government of India, the coin weighs 35 grams and is composed of a metal alloy containing 50 percent silver, 40 percent copper, 5 percent nickel, and 5 percent zinc. This commemorative release is set to mark a historic milestone in India’s railway and infrastructure development journey.
