CEO SDA inspects Solid Waste Management Plant ahead of Amarnath Yatra in Sonamarg
Ganderbal, Jun 2: In view of the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Bilal Mukhtar, on Monday inspected the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plant in Sonamarg to review its preparedness for the pilgrimage season.
The CEO was accompanied by officials from the Roads & Buildings (R\&B) Department and the Mechanical Engineering Department during the inspection. According to an official, the visit aimed to evaluate the plant’s ability to manage the anticipated rise in waste generation during the Yatra.
During the inspection, CEO Bilal Mukhtar emphasised the crucial role of solid waste management in protecting the ecological integrity of Sonamarg, particularly during the peak tourist and pilgrim season.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to adopting eco-friendly and sustainable methods for waste disposal.
The inspection highlighted the close coordination among departments to ensure that all arrangements are in place before the commencement of the Yatra. Discussions focused on enhancing waste management efficiency through increased manpower, improved infrastructure, and continuous operation of the SWM plant to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEO noted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to provide pilgrims and tourists with a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible experience in Sonamarg.
