CEO Gulmarg convenes meeting to set up prepaid counters, fix cab rates

Srinagar, Mar 26: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gulmarg, Waseem Raja, on Tuesday convened a meeting of stakeholders including transporters from Tangmarg and Gulmarg, travel trade fraternity and government officials for the fixation of cab rates for Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Drung sightseeing.

The meeting was held at the office of CEO at Tangmarg. Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari also attended the meeting as a special invitee.

The meeting was also attended by other senior officers including ARTO Sopore, Tehsildar Gulmarg, SHO Tangmarg, Tourist officer Gulmarg , President Union Taxi stand Tangmarg.

The representatives of travel trade and tourism stakeholders shared their inputs and concerns regarding instances of overcharging by union taxi operators. They also complained about harassment of tourists by some guides within and around Gulmarg.

As per the handout issued here, the representatives of travel trade have also appreciated the action taken by CEO Gulmarg against unregistered guides recently. During the meeting, RTO and CEO Gulmarg stated that rates would be fixed for Union cabs at Gulmarg and Tangmarg and assured that the rate list will be made public soon.

“The rate list will be effectively implemented with strict enforcement under the proper vigil of the local police,” the handout reads.

It reads that a helpline from RTO, CEO Gulmarg will also be made public for registration of complaints.

CEO also instructed the President of Taxi Union Associations at Tangmarg to identify the spots for pre-paid taxi counters both at Tangmarg and Gulmarg for any union cab bookings.
