Cellular internet services suspended in 2 Pulwama villages

Srinagar, Nov 7: The cellular internet services have been suspended in two villages of Pulwama and step has been taken to maintain public order, officials said.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar issued directives to the telecom service providers to suspend mobile data services in the Wampora and Hunipora villages of the south Kashmir district.

“Potential misuse of mobile data services by anti-national elements can lead to deterioration in public order,” reads the order by ADGP Kashmir.
Telecom service providers were instructed to cease mobile data services within a 3-km radius of these areas, commencing at 7 pm on November 5 and concluding at 7 pm on November 8.

The ADGP’s order reads that the potential misuse of mobile data services by anti-national elements could lead to deterioration in public order.

“ADGP, Kashmir Zone, Srinagar being the authorised officer under the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, has issued directions to the telecom service providers and internet service providers to suspend mobile data 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G services in Wampora and Hunipora area (latitude 33.9614541 and longitude 74.8720951 with 3 km of radius) of district Pulwama with effect from 7 pm on November 5, 2023, to 7 pm on November 8, 2023. Whereas, the order and letter under reference, inter-alia, mentions about possibility of mobile data 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G services to be misused by anti-national elements and miscreants, which may cause deterioration in public order,” reads an order of the J&K Home Department.

“Now, therefore, upon consideration of the various aspects, as brought out in the material provided by the authorised officer, I, Financial Commissioner (ACS) Home, being satisfied that there was an absolute necessity for issuance of the aforesaid directions by the authorised officer, without obtaining prior approval of the competent authority, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State and for maintaining public order, hereby confirm order No 4106 (TSTS) of 2023 dated November 5, 2023, under endorsement No KZ/CS/Snap-down/2023 dated November 5, 2023, issued by the authorised officer, in exercise of powers conferred under sub-rule (1) of Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.”
