Srinagar, Oct 15: The minister for education Sakina Itoo Wednesday announced an auditorium for the Government College for Women (GCW) MA Road Srinagar while addressing the students during the platinum Jubilee of the college.

In her address to the students and the faculty, Sakina Itoo who was the chief guest at the occasion said the GCW Srinagar has a legacy of 75 years and has remained ahead in all aspects.

"As I see the students, it appears that the auditorium does not have enough space to accommodate all the students. I announce a new auditorium for the college with a capacity of 1000 seats," Sakina Itoo announced in her address.

She asked the director of colleges J&K, who was present at the occasion, to submit a detailed report to the administrative department for the further process.

"This college has contributed a lot towards society. It has remained ahead in all activities and we need to promote it further," she said.

She said the college has produced genius students some of whom also served as the faculty in the college. "I am thankful to all the faculty members who have served in the college in the past, for laying such a strong foundation of the college," she said.

In her address, she recalled her college days and shared how they used to get caught by the gatekeeper of the college once the students would attempt to bunk the classes.

"We all should value and enjoy college life because this is the best part of life and you will never get a second chance to live it," she said.

Sakina Itoo said that GCW Srinagar has been a cornerstone of women empowerment and nurturing generations of leaders, who have contributed across various fields.

"In the last 75 years, it has opened doors of opportunity for thousands of young women," she said.

Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Department (HED) Shantamanu, Principal GCW Srinagar Prof. Yasmeen Farooq, Nodal Principal Kashmir division colleges Prof. Seema Naz, Dean Academic Affairs Cluster University Srinagar, former Principals and Professors of College besides other Alumni of college and students were present on the occasion.

Earlier in her welcome address, Principal GCW Srinagar termed the celebrations as a momentous day in the history of college. She also highlighted various achievements of the college since its inception.
