Ganderbal, May 22:   The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil has expressed anger over the one way traffic schedule on the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway connecting Ladakh with Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Wednesday said that it is surprising that the concerned authorities are still allowing only one way traffic movement on the Srinagar-Leh highway, adding that this has caused a huge inconvenience to the travelers .

" We are at the end of May and still there is one way traffic being allowed on Srinagar-Leh highway. It has impacted the business particularly tourism in Ladakh and is causing inconvenience to the people traveling on the road" CEC told Greater Kashmir.

CEC Dr Jaffer said that the authorities should allow traffic movement from both sides on a daily basis after setting a traffic movement plan. He said the traffic from Kargil side should be allowed in morning given patients, people have to reach Kashmir due to emergency while the traffic from Sonamarg side should be allowed in the evening to avoid any congestion.

" We have taken up the matter with the Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Brigadier BD Mishra, Advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal and the district administration of Kargil and asked them to take the necessary steps by consulting the district administration Ganderbal and traffic Police Rural Kashmir, " Dr Jaffer said.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that they will allow traffic movement on both sides from Thursday.

"Both upwards and downward traffic movement will be allowed from Thursday as per the advisory and plan by the traffic police. Along the Zojila Pass there are still spots with huge snow accumulation and chances of avalanche due to which the commuters should take precautions " SSP said.
