CEC LAHDC Kargil calls for job opportunities for locals in Zojila tunnel project
Kargil, June 22: Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon has called for job opportunities for locals in Zojila tunnel project.
He asked the Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) construction company to emphasise that the local youth should be given job opportunities in the Zojilla Tunnel Project. Dr Akhoon chaired a meeting with the representative and Incharge of Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited, who is the construction company of the Zojilla Tunnel. They said that the discussions were focused on issues with an emphasis on providing employment opportunities to local youth.
The CEC requested the MEIL Incharge to submit a detailed list of employees currently engaged at the eastern portal of the tunnel. He further directed that local skilled and unskilled labourers should be given preference in the recruitment process. Highlighting the importance of local engagement, Dr Akhoon urged the project management to work in close coordination with the local community. He emphasised that the Zojilla Tunnel is a dream project for the Ladakh region and requires a broad and inclusive perspective to ensure its success. The CEC also instructed the Executive Councillors to schedule another meeting with the concerned parties to outline the next steps.
