CDS General Anil Chauhan to visit Jammu following recent terror attacks

His visit comes after a series of deadly attacks that have shaken the region, leaving 12 people dead, including a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and nine pilgrims.

Srinagar, June 17: Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan is set to visit Jammu today to assess the security situation in view of recent terror attacks in the region, officials said.

His visit comes after a series of deadly attacks that have shaken the region, leaving 12 people dead, including a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and nine pilgrims.

General Chauhan is expected to hold a high-level meeting at the White Knight Corps headquarters in Nagrota. During this meeting, he will be briefed on the current security dynamics and the measures being implemented to counter the recent wave of violence, said a top official.

In the past two weeks, terrorists have targeted multiple locations across the Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir. These coordinated attacks have resulted in significant casualties and have raised concerns about the security infrastructure in the region.

Terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district due to which it fell into a deep gorge, resulting in the deaths of nine persons. The attack which took place on June 9th also left dozens injured.

On June 12, security forces engaged two suspected militants in a fierce gunfight in Kathua district. Both the terrorists were neutralized, and a large cache of arms and ammunition, including assault rifles and grenades, was recovered from their possession. A CRPF jawan also lost his life in the firefight.

In Doda district, terrorists ambushed a convoy of security personnel, leaving at least five soldiers and a policeman injured.
