CCIK meets Div Com, urges festive push to revive winter tourism
Srinagar, Dec 18: A delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK), led by its president Tariq Ghani, on Thursday met Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg and called for large-scale illumination and festive beautification of major tourist destinations to boost winter tourism ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
A statement said that during the meeting, the delegation highlighted issues being faced by traders, hoteliers, houseboat owners, industrial units and other allied sectors, with particular focus on challenges confronting winter tourism in the Valley. The Divisional Commissioner assured the delegation of full administrative support and positive action to address genuine concerns of the business community.
CCIK stressed the need for special decorative lighting and beautification of prominent tourist hubs, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Srinagar, to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
The delegation also suggested organising cultural programmes, handicraft exhibitions and food festivals during the festive period, terming these initiatives vital for attracting tourists and enhancing their overall experience.
The Divisional Commissioner agreed that such measures would help generate festive cheer and contribute to revitalising winter tourism in Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by CCIK office bearers and representatives, including Aijaz Khan, Ashiq Bhat, Manzoor Paktoon, chairman Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association, Zubair Gul, youth president CCIK, and Umar Koul, chief coordinator, among others.
