CBI registers case against 4 postal officials, others
Jammu, Aug 29: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against four postal assistants and other accused for alleged fraudulent withdrawal of funds from the Public Provident Fund (PPF) account at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office, Jammu and conducted searches at residential premises of accused on Thursday.
A spokesperson of CBI, in an official statement, said, “Bureau registered a case on August 28, 2024, against four accused, all posted at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office, Jammu and unknown others on allegations of fraudulent closure and withdrawal of funds from PPF account at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office Jammu.”
“The accused against whom FIR was registered included Sadaf Gulzar, Postal Assistant, (the then Assistant Post Master SB), Surinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Karun Sharma, all Postal Assistants posted at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office, Jammu,” the spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the case was registered based on a complaint received from the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Jammu Division, Jammu.
“It was also alleged in the complaint that the account was closed on May 29, 2024, and the closure proceeds amounting to Rs 23,36,130 were credited in a joint account opened fraudulently. The complaint, prima facie, revealed the role of accused postal officials,” the spokesperson said.
In this connection, CBI conducted searches today at the residential premises of the accused at four locations in Jammu, the spokesperson added.
