“We have a school and residential area here which is a low-lying area. We fear that as caving of land is major, it will put us at risk. You can see a major chunk of land has caved in, and there are huge cracks in the land,” said a local.

The locals said that the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) recently constructed a wall on the spot. They alleged that the wall was not properly built, which triggered caving in of the land.

“The wall was not properly built, and its foundations were not deep enough. This improper execution has led to the issue. Our houses are at risk, and we will not be able to stay here until the issue is addressed,” said another local.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam Akshay Labroo said that following the issue, a team from district administration led by ADC reached the spot to assess the situation.

“There was some construction going on near the spot, and the technical team will visit there to ascertain the causes. We have asked the residents that the administration will provide us all assistance. The residents said that they would stay at relatives’ houses till safety was ensured. We will do everything to ensure the safety of the local population and will address this issue swiftly,” Labroo said.
