Cash stolen from donation box at Dastageer Sahib (RA) shrine
Srinagar, Jul 10: Unidentified burglars decamped with cash from a donation box in the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), popularly known as Dastgeer Sahib (RA) at Khanyar area in Downtown.
Police said the incident occurred on the intervening night of July 8-9, during which thieves decamped with an undisclosed amount of cash from the donation box. Confirming the incident, a police officer said, “A case has been registered and investigation is actively underway. We are pursuing all leads, and culprits involved in this act will be apprehended soon.”
The devotees are decrying moral decay creeping into society. “Such acts were alien to our land, and it reflects how drug abuse and moral degradation are corroding our pristine social fabric,” said Muhammad Yousuf, a devotee.
“We urge the police and administration to come down heavily on drug peddlers and criminal elements operating in the city. At the same time, our religious leaders must address this issue and spread the message of moral integrity and community responsibility,” said a resident. Devotees demanded increasing security arrangements around major shrines in Srinagar.
