Poonch, Nov 29: No explosive content was found inside a suspected box that was recovered at a village of Mendhar of Poonch district. Instead firecrackers and some other useless material was found packed inside the box which was initially suspected to be an improvised explosive device.

Police has also registered a case of mischief against the mischievous element who tried to spread panic in the area.

The recovery was made on Thursday evening in Chajjla area of Poonchs' Mendhar sub division when security forces found a suspicious box, looking like a utensils IED, from beneath a road culvert in this area.

In official statement, police said that security forces district's Mendhar sub division were alerted after a suspicious box was spotted in the Chajjla area. During examination of box by Poonch police it emerged that the box contains firecrackers, police said.

A FIR No 223/2024 of PS Mendhar has been registered under the relevant sections of the law for acts of mischief, police said as the IED like material is un-explosive in nature and rather an attempt to create panic.

Investigation is underway to identify the culprit who tried to create panic in the area, police further said adding that all efforts are being made to unearth this mischievous act and anti social elements behind this act.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects to the nearest authorities. The safety and security of the community remain the top priority of police and other security agencies, said police.
