CASCO T-10 cricket tournament kicks off with thrilling matches at GVEI
Srinagar, Feb 10: The CASCO T-10 Cricket tournament, organised under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2024-25, commenced with great enthusiasm at Green Valley Educational Institute ground, Ellahi Bagh in Buchpora, Srinagar, on Monday.
As per a press release issued on Monday, SP Hazratbal Hilal Khaliq Bhat was the chief guest at the occasion. SDPO Hazratbal Ashiq Hussain Malik, SDPO Zakura Ashiq Hussain Dar, and other senior officers were present at the occasion.
The school handout reads that the tournament aims to foster sportsmanship and enthusiasm among the youth while providing them with a platform to showcase their cricketing talent.
The initiative, as per the release, has been taken by the district police in Srinagar to engage young individuals in positive activities and promote social responsibility.
"It is also a significant effort to prevent youth from falling into negative influences such as drug abuse," the school handout reads.
In his address at the occasion, SP Hazratbal Hilal Khaliq Bhat emphasised the importance of integrity, respect, and discipline in sports.
He encouraged the players to approach the game with dedication and to use the tournament as a learning experience for personal and athletic growth.
The tournament commenced with two thrilling matches. The first match saw Team Batpora Zakura facing Team Soura.
Batpora Zakura won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a target of 89 runs in 10 overs.
While chasing the score, the opponent team struggled to chase the target and managed to score only 56/9 in 10 overs, following which the Batpora team emerged victorious.
The second match featured Team Lal Bazar against Team Sadrabal. Winning the toss, Lal Bazar elected to bat first and posted a competitive total of 91 for the loss of six wickets in allotted 10 overs. Team Sadrabal, in their chase, fell short and could only score 46 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 10 overs.
Addressing the gathering, Principal GVEI Riyaz Ahmad Kathjoo reaffirmed the commitment of the school to foster youth development through sports and education.
He expressed his appreciation for the initiative, stating that GVEI will always support such programs that contribute to the betterment of the younger generation.
The CASCO T-10 Cricket Tournament will continue for four days.
The event is expected to witness high-energy matches as young cricketers from different localities compete for the championship, making it a memorable sporting celebration.
