Kupwara, Nov 12: Candlelight marches were held in Handwara and Langate areas of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday evening to denounce the recent car blast in Delhi that claimed nine innocent lives.

The peaceful gatherings saw participation from locals, traders, and members of civil society, who expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.

In Handwara, the march was led by Dr Sheikh Jamsheed and Advocate Mir Imran at Main Chowk. Participants carrying candles and placards raised slogans against terrorism, terming the blast a cowardly act against humanity. They demanded exemplary punishment for those behind the attack and urged people of all communities to unite against violence and hatred.

A similar march was held at Main Chowk Langate, where scores of locals and social activists joined in condemning the blast. Speakers said no religion permits the killing of innocents and called for collective efforts to uphold peace and justice.

The participants appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure stringent preventive measures to safeguard citizens across the country and bring the perpetrators to justice. Both marches concluded peacefully with a moment of silence observed in memory of the victims, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to peace, harmony, and national unity.
