Candidature of 266 candidates approved for phase II

Jammu, Sep 6: The scrutiny of nomination papers for 26 assembly constituencies which are going to polls in the second phase was held in the office of the respective Returning Officers across six districts on Friday.

This is following the election schedule issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the conduct of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls.

During the scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by 309 candidates, the candidature of 266 candidates was found valid as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

A statement from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) issued here today said that the nomination papers of 99 candidates were found valid in Srinagar district, followed by 55 in Budgam, 39 in Rajouri, 30 in Poonch, 22 in Reasi district, and 21 in Ganderbal.

In the Reasi district, the nomination papers of six candidates were found valid in 56-Gulabgarh (ST); 9 candidates in 57-Reasi; and seven candidates in 58-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.

In the Rajouri district, the nomination papers of 11 candidates were found valid in 83-Kalakote-Sunderbani; five in 84-Nowshera; 12 in 85-Rajouri (ST); five in 86-Budhal (ST); and six in 87-Thannamandi (ST).

In Poonch district, 10 nomination papers were accepted in 88-Surankote (ST); nine in 89-Poonch Haveli, and 11 in 90-Mendhar (ST).

In the Ganderbal district, the nomination papers of six candidates were accepted in 17-Kangan (ST) and 15 in 18- Ganderbal.

In the Srinagar district, nomination papers of 13 candidates were accepted in 19-Hazratbal; 10 candidates in 20-Khanyar; 17 in 21-Habbakadal; 11 in 22-Lal Chowk; nine in 23-Channapora; 11 in 24-Zadibal; 15 in 25-Eidgah; and 13 in 26-Central Shalteng.

In the Budgam district, nomination papers of 12 candidates were accepted in 27-Budgam; 14 in 28-Beerwah; 11 in 29-Khan Sahab; 11 in 30-Charar-e-Sharief; and seven in 31-Chadoora.

As per the election notification, the candidates can withdraw their nomination by September 9 up to 3 pm in the office of the respective Returning Officers.

September 25 is the polling day for these 26 assembly constituencies in phase-II and the voting would be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm.
