Can discuss after SC’s decision: Dr Farooq Abdullah
Srinagar, Apr 14: The National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday said that discussions on Waqf Amendment Act can be held only after Supreme Court (SC) announces its decision on the matter.
Talking to reporters, he said that his party has already cleared its stand on the issue and termed the Act as against the law. “It (Act) is against the Constitution and our party made an earnest appeal that it should be reconsideread. Now National Conference with other parties has moved the Supreme Court and we hope that justice will be done,” he said.
NC President welcomed the decision of the J&K Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather for not allowing a discussion on the matter, citing its pendency before the Supreme Court. “We can talk about this Act after the Supreme Court announces decision,” he said.
On opposition’s criticism, National Conference President said their approach was not constructive.”It is not a healthy criticism but they do only opposition here,” he said.
When asked about the pandemonium witnessed in the last three days of the budget session in Jammu being termed as a “fixed match” by the opposition, he reacted by saying “has the opposition ever introspected.”
