Srinagar, Nov 2: Schools and colleges across Kashmir witnessed a vibrant blend of academic, cultural, and administrative developments this week — from a conference on Artificial Intelligence in education to spirited school events and a change of leadership at the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.
IASE hosts 2-day conference on ‘Integrating AI and 21st Century Skills in Education’
The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) hosted a two-day conference on ‘Integrating AI and 21st Century Skills in Education’, organised by the Innovation and Action Research Cell in collaboration with the School Education Department, Kashmir.
Minister for Education Sakina Itoo, who inaugurated the event, stressed the importance of aligning the education system with rapid technological shifts. She said Artificial Intelligence should be used as a tool to foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving among learners.
Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, Shantmanu, underscored the need for policy-level measures and administrative reforms to integrate AI into educational planning.
GVEI celebrates Parents’ Day with enthusiasm and pride
The primary department of Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) held a two-day Parents’ Day celebration at the newly inaugurated Ahmad Hall, where students from Levels 1 and 2 showcased cultural performances, skits, songs, and dances dedicated to their parents.
Chairman GVEI, Muhammad Yousuf Wani, spoke on the significance of effective parenting and its influence on shaping children’s personalities and values. The event drew an enthusiastic response from parents and guests, turning the celebration into a heartfelt expression of gratitude and joy.
GVEI student wins laurels at Travelling FSA Film Festival 2025
Marking a proud moment for the institution, GVEI’s Class 11 Media Studies student, Muntaha Masoodi, bagged the second position in the student film category at the Travelling Film Southasia (FSA) Film Festival 2025, hosted by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, IUST Awantipora, in collaboration with Film Southasia, Nepal.
The festival screened nineteen films, including fifteen student productions and four award-winning documentaries, sparking engaging discussions between filmmakers and audiences. GDC Baramulla’s film Stitch won the Best Film Award, while GVEI’s entry was commended for its originality and strong technical execution.
Naseer Wani assumes charge as Director School Education Kashmir
Naseer Ahmad Wani officially took charge as Director School Education, Kashmir (DSEK), following the superannuation of Dr G N Itoo on October 31.
In his maiden address, Wani emphasised that all educational efforts must centre on students’ holistic development. “Every initiative, reform, and effort should aim to nurture responsible, confident, and capable citizens,” he said.
The department also lauded Dr Itoo’s service, describing his tenure as one marked by dedication, sincerity, and a people-friendly approach.
BOMIS Pampore holds annual Sports Day ‘Shehjar’
Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS), Pampore, held its annual Sports Day, Shehjar, under the supervision of Principal Dr. Mehnaz Rehman.
The event celebrated students’ achievements across sports, martial arts, and cultural performances.
