A statement said that Farhan Kitab, President of CAIT Kashmir Chapter, voiced serious concerns about the sale of high-value consumer products at prices substantially lower than those in traditional retail stores. "Social media platforms are undermining the retail sector's economic sustainability by offering products at unfair prices," Kitab said.

He stressed the need for authorities to verify the quality and authenticity of these products to protect consumers from potential fraud.

Peer Imtiyaz, General Secretary of CAIT Kashmir Chapter, highlighted the broader economic implications. "Unregulated imports and unchecked sales on social media platforms have dealt a significant blow to wholesale businesses," Imtiyaz explained. He urged authorities to take immediate action and enforce necessary regulations.

The organisation has proposed a comprehensive approach to addressing these challenges. CAIT Kashmir recommends implementing a robust policy framework to ensure fair competition and protect consumer interests. A key suggestion is the introduction of an e-commerce luxury tax on high-end products sold through online platforms, which they believe would create a more balanced marketplace for both digital and traditional retailers.

"Our primary goal is to advocate for fair trade practices that protect the interests of both retailers and consumers in the region," Kitab added.
