Srinagar, June 3: On the second day of the internship program organised by the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, Sumit Chaturvedi, Senior News Editor at ET Now, delivered an engaging session on the essentials of business reporting, providing students with valuable insights into this dynamic field.

The session saw enthusiastic participation from students of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar.

Chaturvedi offered a comprehensive overview of the fast-paced world of business journalism, highlighting the importance of accuracy, clarity, and analytical thinking in financial reporting.

“Business reporting is not just about numbers; it’s about telling the story behind the data and its impact on people and markets,” he said, encouraging students to develop a sharp eye for detail and a strong grasp of economic trends.

The session covered core components of business journalism, including interpreting financial statements, analyzing market movements, and crafting accessible yet compelling stories for varied audiences.

Prof. Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, thanked the guest speaker for enriching the students' understanding of industry practices. “Such interactions bridge the gap between academia and industry, aligning well with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on experiential learning,” she said. She also acknowledged the efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai in promoting academia-industry collaborations.

Prof. Gupta further appreciated Prof. Geetanjali Rana, Principal of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, for facilitating the opportunity for students to engage with national media professionals and gain hands-on exposure in a university setting.

Faculty members Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai, Dr. Pardeep Singh Bali, Dr. Ramiyan Bharadwaj, and Kumerjit Chajgotra also conducted sessions, actively engaging students throughout the day.
