Bus service to run from Srinagar to Kaman Post
Uri, Aug 04: Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir has ordered the direct bus service from Srinagar to Kaman Post, the last military post on this side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to an order, a copy of which is with Greater Kashmir, RTO Kashmir has written to the chairman Western Bus Service, Parimpora, Srinagar instructing him to start the service.
“In view of increased demand from tourists and the general public, you are advised to run a bus service from Srinagar to Kaman Post / Salamabad daily in the morning hours at 7.30 am,” the order reads.
On May 13, Greater Kashmir reported that residents of Uri have been requesting a direct bus service from Srinagar to Kaman Post.
Local residents have expressed gratitude following this announcement, having recently raised the issue with the RTO Kashmir.
“We are thankful to the RTO Kashmir, the Presidents of Western Bus Service Srinagar and Baramulla for addressing our concerns swiftly. The service will commence from Monday,” said Manzoor Ahmad, a social activist from Garkote village of Uri.
Residents also believe that the new bus service will boost border tourism in the region.
Kaman Post has become a popular tourist destination in Uri since it was officially opened to visitors in June last year. The strategic bridge attracts thousands of local and non-local tourists on a daily basis, who are issued passes on spot by the Army.
The Army has enhanced various facilities at Kaman Post to attract more visitors.
