Building gutted in Malpora blaze

Srinagar, Jan 30: A building was gutted in a fire incident at Iqra Market, Malpora near Jamia Masjid in Downtown here today.An official from the Fire and emergency service said that multiple fire tenders from Headquarters, Babademb, Rainawari, and other various fire and emergency stations were pressed into service to douse off the fire.

“The fire started in a double-story commercial building and soon engulfed multiple shops which were located on the ground floor of the building. The shops that were gutted included a jewelry shop, Kiryana shop and printing press. Our men tried their best and brought the fire under control in time,” said the official.
The officials said that during the incident, goods in the two shops were damaged. “The roofing, ceiling, windows, and doors of the shops were also damaged in the incident,” said the official, adding that the cause of the fire is being investigated.
