BSNL upgrades 67 towers to 4G for Amarnath Yatra connectivity
Srinagar, June 12: In a significant step toward ensuring seamless digital connectivity for pilgrims, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) facilitated the live streaming of the sacred Pratham Pooja of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, held on June 11 at the Holy Cave. The event marked the formal beginning of this year’s pilgrimage, steeped in devotion and spiritual fervour.
BSNL, the first telecom provider to establish connectivity at the Holy Cave back in 2010, has continued to enhance its network infrastructure along both Baltal and Pahalgam routes. With the recent upgrade of 67 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to 4G, pilgrims are expected to benefit from faster, more reliable mobile and data services throughout the Yatra.
Speaking about the preparations, Arvind Pandey, Principal General Manager,BSNL Kashmir, stated, “This year, BSNL has deployed state-of-the-art 4G infrastructure en route to the cave shrine. SIM cards for pilgrims will be made available at Baltal and Pahalgam camps and at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu, ensuring uninterrupted communication and internet access."
"BSNL remains committed to providing uninterrupted mobile and data services to the yatries, and SIM cards shall be available for the yatries at Baltal and Pahalgam camps, as well as at the Bhagwati Nagar Jammu base camp," Pandey said.
He further added that the implementation of its state-of-the-art "Atmanirbhar" 4G network project is in full swing, marking a significant milestone in advancing telecommunications infrastructure and bridging the digital divide.
This ambitious initiative aims to provide high-speed internet access to underserved and rural communities, empowering businesses, educational institutions, and individuals with seamless connectivity. The deployment of 4G technology ensures faster data speeds, improved call quality, and enhanced mobile broadband services, fostering economic growth and digital innovation. Remote, uncovered, and bordering villages that have lately been deprived of telecommunication facilities have been covered in this prestigious project across the Kashmir valley, the statement said.
