BSNL launches Swadeshi 4G network, adds 26,700 villages
Srinagar, Sep 28: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), and Tejas Networks, has rolled out the Bharat Telecom Stack — India’s first fully indigenous 4G technology solution.
A statement said that with this launch, India joins a select group of five nations that have developed their own telecom technology stack supporting 4G and beyond. The mission-mode project, completed in just two years, integrates seamlessly with BSNL’s existing 2G/3G networks and connects 26,700 additional villages.
The rollout includes over 100,000 sites equipped with C-DOT’s EPC Core, Tejas’s radio infrastructure, and TCS’s Cognitive Network Operations platform for 24/7 management. Officials said the expansion will boost national security and make digital services — from education and healthcare to e-governance — accessible across rural and urban India.
